[It takes Kieran a little bit to write out the message (and even longer to actually send it), but eventually, a text will be sent Drayton's way.]
Drayton,
I was wondering if you would be able to help me with something. It's not really related to Pokemon, but it is related to training. I don't really know if this is something you'd know anything about, but I think if anyone could help me out, you might be able to.
[Probably best to just leave it there, since it'll take a bit of time for Kieran to type more natural. What did that mean? Typing was like writing, right?]
[Anyways. He will make his way over to the training grounds like he said, and will be there by the time Drayton gets there. His Pokemon are out and doing their own activities, but Kieran is there as well, which isn't so unusual. What is unusual is that Kieran has a long stick in his hand, fairly thick and almost as tall as he is. But it's not just a stick, but a simple bo staff. He's holding it like he isn't sure what to do with it, but he's holding it and moving it in his hands like he's getting used to its weight.]
[ true to form, it's closer to half an hour for drayton to arrive, flying in with dragonite because he was already running late. it's possible he was mid-nap and then maybe napped another 20 minutes. it's fine.
anyway upon landing he's immediately letting his other dragons free to go roam with their friends or mess around nearby. his attention is on kieran and... a weapon? it's a strange sight, one he approaches with hands raised in preemptive surrender. ]
[Honestly Kieran's not surprised that Drayton's late; it's actually kind of normal for him at this point. So he watches as Drayton finally, eventually touches down, letting his Pokemon out before turning to him. Though his comment makes Kieran freeze a bit, looking at the staff in his hands before shaking his head.]
[ those raised hands turn placating, waving down the hurried explanation casually. ]
I'm jokin', jokin'. If you actually got real mad there's plenty more effective ways to prove the point.
[ but! hm! how curious of a situation to be asked for assistance with. training but not with pokemon, huh? and kieran had assumed he might know something to be able to help. veeery curious. ]
So you got a cool stick and you wanted some help learnin' to hit stuff with it?
[Kieran can't help the somewhat-sheepish look, since, well... he kind of had proven that when he was on his Champion reign, hadn't he? Still, it's best not to dwell on that when he looks down at the staff.]
Well... kinda, yeah. I know we have our Pokemon, but, well...
[He fidgets a bit, almost out of embarrassment, before he finally takes a breath and spits it out.]
I was talkin' to some people, and... they all said it might be a good idea to learn how to fight on our own, too. Cause, what if there's a time when we can't use our Pokemon? And that this world has people who won't follow the rules we're used to, so...
Yeah, it's a good idea. 'round dangerous parts like there can be here, our Pokemon might get tied up with other stuff an' you'd be a sittin' Ducklett.
[ easy to admit that the logic was sound. drayton had seen through work that kieran was surprisingly strong under that small frame, so it wasn't like he'd be lacking in base ability to hit things real hard.
that still begged one question, though. ]
Got plenty of fighters proven good on this island, and you still asked me? What made you think I'd know anythin' useful?
[ not a confirmation or denial yet. a curious tilt to his head, smile bordering on cheshire. ]
[That was the sentiment several people had informed him of, one way or another. How even though their Pokemon were strong, there was no moral understanding of "don't attack the Trainer" in this world. It would be a disadvantage, no matter how good their teams were or how skilled of Trainers they were.]
[Kieran frowns, pausing again as he looks over at the direction of the main house.]
I know I could ask the others, but it's almost like... they're all on another level, you know? They're all super strong and can all use crazy magic, so it's... a little intimidatin' to ask 'em. You're just... easier to ask. So I thought you might know somethin'...
